Meet Simon
Experienced Asheville Therapist,
Dad, Nature-lover, Community-Oriented
Just a bit about me…
I have lived in Western North Carolina since 2005. I am a father of two adventurous boys and I feel grateful to raise them in beautiful Western North Carolina. I enjoy exploring the outdoors and I appreciate the sense of community Asheville provides. I love my work as a therapist and feel privileged and honored to support individuals who seek growth and who are ready to explore themselves openly, honestly, and hopefully gently. I find my clients to be insightful, courageous, and inspiring.
I completed my Masters degree in Clinical Psychology at Appalachian State University in 2010. I trained at the University Psychology Clinic and the University Counseling Center. I completed my internship administering psychological assessments, co-leading group therapy sessions, and providing individual therapy with adjudicated adolescent boys at the Swannanoa Valley Youth Development Center near Asheville.
After earning my Masters degree, I served in several roles, including Managing Director and therapist at CooperRiis Healing Community in Asheville. Through my work at CooperRiis, I had the pleasure of serving a diverse population of people with a wide range of mental health challenges. There, I developed a passion for working with people using a strengths-based, compassionate approach to treatment. In addition to my therapy practice, which occurs through Asheville Testing, I also conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations at Asheville Testing.
Outside of work, I love to spend time with my two kids. I enjoy trail running, hiking, and biking in these beautiful Blue Ridge mountains. I also love traveling and skiing in the winter months.
My Vision
My focus is on creating a safe, nurturing and caring environment that facilitates self-exploration. I hope to support my clients in finding balance, purpose, and joy in life. The goal may be to create balance in the area of professional life, interpersonal relationships, self-care, parenting, or as is the case with many of us, in synthesizing all of these areas into a congruent whole. As a therapist, I support, empathize, challenge, and hold space for deeper self-reflection.
As humans, we desire connection and understanding. We crave a sense of purpose. In a world that can feel chaotic, therapy can help us reflect on what helps us feel whole and experience a sense of belonging.
Whether perfectionism gets in the way of deepening relationships, relationship challenges get in the way of maintaining focus, or a lack of deep connections leaves you feeling unfulfilled, therapy can help you find balance and live a life that truly expresses your essence.
As a human being and a therapist, I believe that a sense of imbalance in life and a lack of connection can lead to anxiety, depression, and generally rob us of feelings of well-being and joy. Together we will explore your sense of self, challenge unhelpful and unhealthy beliefs about yourself, and envision a life of balance and joy.
